Breeding mutation is the amount of variation in the random selection of new numerical parameters from a normal (bell-shaped) distribution. The mean (average) of the distribution is either the value from one parent or the blended value from two parents. At 100% mutation the standard deviation of the normal distribution is half of the mean. At 0% mutation there is no variation, and all offspring have exactly the same value as the mean for each parameter.

To change mutation options,

       Choose Vary Numbers > Custom from the breeder Options menu

       Click the Mutation tab.

       If you don't want to differentiate between parameter sections, just click on the Mutation strength slider and drag to the left or right. All parameters will use the new mutation value.

       If you want to differentiate between parameter sections, click the Sections button. A list of parameter sections will appear (the same list as in the main window). For each section or sections you want to set the mutation for, select the sections in the list, then drag the Mutation strength slider to the left or right. 

How this works with the breeder numerical variation predefined settings:

       When you choose Low breeding variation from the breeder Variation menu, the mutation percent for all parameter sections is set to 20%. At Medium variation the mutation percent is 60%. At High variation the mutation percent is 100%.
