When I use the "plant bitmaps" the plants look all wrong. One plant covers up another with white space, like this:

One of our users reported this problem using an Nvidia Ultra video card. You can work around the problem by turning off plant bitmaps (in the Options menu). That does make redrawing go slower, but it's the only answer we have at this point. If you see this problem, we'd appreciate a note at plantstudio@kurtz-fernhout.com telling us what type of graphics card you use.

I dragged a plant out of the window! How do I get it back?

PlantStudio doesnt stop you from dragging out a plant out of view (maybe you want to). Select the plant in the list of plants, then hold down the Control key and press the arrow keys to nudge the plant back into view.

I can double-click on the plants name in the list to rename it, but when I double-click on the plant itself, nothing happens.

Double-clicking on the drawing of a plant doesnt do anything. It has to do with properly responding to your mouse movements in the drawing area.

Sometimes a stem comes out in front of a leaf when it shouldn't.

This is because the way the 3D polygons sort is not perfect. When this happens, rotate the plant a little until the "unreal" situation goes away.

When I have files with over 20 or so plants, it gets cumbersome to move all the plants around.

This is a prime candidate for improvement in PS3. We had originally envisioned PlantStudio as more of a 2D program, where people would want to arrange compositions and make pictures. The interface reflects that. Wed like to add a thumbnail or browser-style interface in the future.

For the time being we suggest just keeping fewer plants in each file.

I changed the drawing options, and the main window redrew, but then the hourglass cursor stayed around for a while and nothing seemed to be going on.

You probably had plants in the breeder or time series window and they were redrawing also.

When I press the Shift key to reduce instead of magnify, the cursor doesn't change right away to the minus magnification glass. Does this mean I can't reduce?

You can still reduce. For some reason, when we set the cursor inside the program, sometimes the cursor doesn't change until you move the mouse. We noticed this happening in other programs too, so it might be a Windows problem. Just move the mouse a bit, and the cursor will change.

How can I change the color of the lines drawn on leaves?

There's no way to directly control the color of triangle edges, but you can specify how much contrast to use when drawing the lines. To make no lines at all between triangles, choose Draw Using > Custom from the Options menu and uncheck Draw lines between polygons. To make the lines between polygons less noticeable but still there, choose Draw Using > Custom from the Options menu and change the number labeled Line contrast index (0 is no lines, 10 is darkest lines).
