You can specify an alternate settings file4L9JLL4 (or no settings file) on the command line for PlantStudio. Normally you will not need to do this, but there may be circumstances where you cant or dont want to save your settings file in your Windows directory.

PlantStudio 2.0 update note: Versions of PlantStudio prior to 2.0 wrote to a settings file called PlantStudio.ini by default. PlantStudio 2.0 writes to a file called PlantStudio2.ini by default. However, if you use an "alternate" settings file name, PlantStudio will use whatever alternative settings file you specify for PlantStudio 2.0 settings.

To create a shortcut for PlantStudio with a special command line in Windows 95/NT,

       Click the Windows Start button, then choose Settings, then Taskbar.

       Click the Start Menu Programs tab.

       Click Add.

       Click Browse and select PlantStudio.exe in the PlantStudio directory.

       In the edit box where the PlantStudio file name (with path) has just appeared, add an extra parameter, separated from the program name by a space, as follows. 

       To specify an alternate settings file, add the parameter /i=file name. If the file name or directory has a space in it, you MUST put quotes around  the whole parameter. For example,

               C:\PlantStudio\PlantStudio.exe /i=c:\MyPlants\PlantStudio Special.ini

       To specify no settings file, add just /i. For example,

               C:\PlantStudio\PlantStudio.exe /i

       Click Next.

       Choose a folder to place the shortcut in, then click Next.

       Type a name for the shortcut. Make sure you give it a name that reminds you that you are using a special settings file or no settings file.

       Click Finish.

       Close the Taskbar Properties window.

       Try out your shortcut.

To change an existing shortcut in Windows 95/NT,

       Click the Windows Start button, then choose Settings, then Taskbar.

       Click the Start Menu Programs tab.

       Click Advanced. The Windows Explorer will open to the area where the shortcuts are stored.  

       Find the shortcut you want to change.

       Select the shortcut and choose Properties from the popup menu or from the Explorer File menu. 

       In the Properties dialog, click the Shortcut tab.

       Change the text in the Target box.

       Click OK.

       Try out the shortcut.

To remove a shortcut in Windows 95/NT,

       Click the Windows Start button, then choose Settings, then Taskbar.

       Click the Start Menu Programs tab.

       Click Remove.

       Find the shortcut, then click Remove.

       Click Close to close the Remove window, then click Cancel to close the Taskbar Properties window.
