Choosing a grouping option for 3D export
In most of the 3D export formats PlantStudio writes, some sort of mechanism is used to group polygons together. If your 3D program can read grouping information, you can choose how you want PlantStudio to write out groups depending on what you want to do with the 3D output. The choices are:
▪ whole plant: Each entire plant will be written out with just one grouping designation, so that when you import it into your 3D program you will not be able to distinguish between any parts of the plant. This option is best when you want to use the plant as-is or with other plants, and you don’t want to change anything within the plant.
▪ type of plant part: Each type of plant part (meristems199WIB8, internodes13R8I1K, first leavesAW65HQ, leaves, primary and secondary8PBK.ED flowers, primary and secondary inflorescencesWhat_is_an_inflorescence, unripe fruits, ripe fruits, and root tops_H_Y6N) will be written into a separate group. This option is most useful when you plan to edit the plant in your 3D program and need to know what type of object each polygon belongs to. For example, if you want to change the colors of all the fruits in your 3D program, you will want all the fruits grouped together.
▪ individual plant part: Each individual plant part will be placed in its own unique group (using part numbers), so you will end up with a long list of grouped polygons in your 3D program. Use this option if you want fine control over the plant parts – if you want to take the plant apart piece by piece.
To change how export groups are assigned to plant parts,
▪ In the Group by panel of the 3D export window, click on the radio button that corresponds to your choice in the options shown above.
▪ If you can’t find the Group by panel on the window, it means that the export type you picked doesn’t support grouping in this way.
